Institut National de Sciences Appliquées de Lyon (INSA) (Lyon)

The INSA trains highly qualified engineers in 5 years after secondary school. The first 2 years constitute the "first stage" of the engineering education, and provide the students with a general multi-disciplinary training both in science and humanities. The objective of the "first stage" of education is to allow the students to pursue their engineering education in any field of specialization and adapt to the future changes of their profession.

École Française d'Électronique et d'Informatique (EFREI) (París)

The EFREI is a leading French engineering school with more than 60 years of teaching experience. When founded in 1936, degrees were granted in radioelectricity and in 1969 a computer science department was developed. Today more than 1,000 students attend classes at EFREI.

The lessons and lectures take place on a friendly campus of 8,000 square meters located close to Paris. The 5-year curriculum leads to a "diplôme d'ingénieur ", a degree acknowledged by the French Ministry of Education. During the first two years, all students attend classes in math, physics, electronics computer science, communication and foreign languages. Then they specialize in one of the three majors : electronics, telecommunications and networking, and computer science. The chart on the opposite page shows the curriculum in details. Moreover students conduct team projects in order to apply and develop their knowledge The equipment of the 16 laboratories in which these numerous projects are carried out is renewed every three years.

L'Institut Supérieur d'Electronique de Paris (ISEP) (París)

The ISEP is a French graduate school of engineering called Grande école d'Ingénieurs. They train very high level graduate engineers who receive a thorough training in Electronics, Telecommunications and Computer Science, so that they are qualified to to meet the needs of the emerging industry industry. Moreover, in order to cater for international students who are looking for a more specialized training, ISEP will offer an international Master's program, from October 2001 on. One course will be taught in English, and there'll also be intern programmes.

Universitatea Politehnica din Bucureşti (UPB) (Bucarest)

Not only is the UPB the oldest technical university but also the largest one in Romania. Its foremost mission is engineering training at all levels (B.SC, M.SC, Ph.D.) by imparting knowledge and practical skills at the same time with encouraging creative thinking, the engineer's magic wand that allows him/her to answer the demands of market economy and the challenge of breakthrough technology. At the same time, like any other great university, the UPB is not only a transmitter but also a creator of science and technology. On the other hand, the university has to be sensitive to the needs of the community and to the changes sweeping through contemporary society; from this respect, the university cannot ignore social and economic reality which means it is bound to train the future generations against the social background of their time. Perhaps one might sum up all these attempts in one word: truth, the search for it and its dissemination; UPB has taken this task as its mission of honour likely to allow it to have a say in shaping society onto the path of progress, excellence and strength.
